The story of why we make soup

True Primal was founded with the mission of helping reverse the modern chronic disease epidemic by providing nourishing, real-food alternatives to the nutrient-poor convenience products dominating the market. Soups were our flagship category, and from the beginning, they were designed with a holistic view of health: supporting human wellness, animal welfare, and environmental sustainability all at the same time.

Our soups are made with organic vegetables and spices, pastured and free-range meat and broth, grass-fed gelatin, and absolutely nothing artificial. Rather than conventional cans, we chose BPA-free pouches that use significantly less material weight and energy during production and shipping, reducing environmental impact while preserving freshness and quality. This packaging choice also helps maximize convenience, providing incredibly portable products that can be stored or transported with ease.

Although our soups began with very high standards of quality, we’ve only worked to increase those standards further over time. For example, we made a major upgrade to our chicken soups by transitioning to meat sourced exclusively from pastured, slow-growth heritage breed chickens that are GAP Step 4 certified—an audit-verified labeling program ensuring high welfare standards and humane living conditions. The birds’ slow-growth genetics not only enhance the nutritional quality of the meat; they also support high quality of life for the birds themselves, due to better bone development and lower risk of skeletal issues and joint pain. To our knowledge, we’re currently the only commercially available soup using chicken meat of this caliber.

Our beef soups follow the same uncompromising standards. All beef is sourced from cattle that are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, raised entirely on open pasture with no feedlots, antibiotics, added hormones, or genetically modified material ever. Processing is organic-only, from start to finish. Sourcing beef of this quality (for a company of our relatively small size) has been a difficult multi-year process that we've refused to cut corners on, committing to upholding our standards no matter how many challenges that brings.

In addition, we adhere to strict company standards to ensure only the highest-quality, health-supportive ingredients are used in our soups. To make sure our products are suitable for customers with dietary restrictions or unique diets, all of our soups are free from gluten, dairy, grains, corn, soy, seed oils, legumes, refined sugar or sugar alcohols, gums, MSG, yeast, and artificial colors and flavors. Two of our soups are even compliant with the Autoimmune Protocol, offering rare, high-quality convenience options for individuals navigating this highly restrictive diet.
